The western Algarve
Beaches, cliffs and stories on the Atlantic edge
Around us
The western Algarve is the most unspoilt stretch of the Algarve coast. Here are a few places we recommend to our guests — outside the resorts, with their own opening hours and conditions.

Salema
Salema beach
Golden sand, calm water and fishing boats drawn up on the beach: Salema keeps its fishing-village character. On the rocks by the beach you can spot fossilised dinosaur footprints.

R. da Fortaleza, 8650 Sagres
Sagres Fortress
On the Sagres headland, one of the Algarve’s best-known monuments. The promontory opens onto the Atlantic and includes the great wind compass, the Church of Our Lady of Grace and an exhibition on the Age of Discovery.

Sítio das Eiras, 8650-405 Vila do Bispo
Vila do Bispo Museum – Celeiro da História
Opened in January 2024 in the former 1950s grain stores, it tells the story of the municipality, including the time when Vila do Bispo was known as the “granary of the Algarve”.

Cabo de São Vicente, 8650-370 Sagres
Cape St Vincent
The south-western tip of mainland Portugal: high cliffs above the Atlantic and a lighthouse that has guided shipping since the 19th century.
