Santo António Golf
A course that embraces the landscape
18 holes among hills, pines and lakes, behind the village of Salema.
The course
Designed by Pepe Gancedo
Spanish architect Pepe Gancedo believed in changing the land as little as possible. The Santo António course follows that idea, running across the hills behind Salema, not far from the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park.
It is a challenging course for every handicap, with clearly defined, visible water hazards and a mix of heathland and parkland.
The holes
Precision first, nerve at the finish
The 1st, a 306-metre par 4, opens with a demanding tee shot. The 5th is a 112-metre par 3 with steep slopes all around the green — the signature hole. The 9th, a 490-metre par 5 and stroke index 1, climbs a hill and crosses a ravine.
On the back nine, the 11th has a green guarded by water and the 14th opens up views of Figueira and the sea. At the 15th, a par 3, you must carry a large lake. The 18th finishes below the Clubhouse on a raised, amphitheatre-shaped green.
